Greeting Members,

Thank you for your patience and continued support. I want to take a moment to update you on our ongoing contract negotiations, as many of you have reached out with questions and concerns. In recent weeks, there have been several critical developments involving the LA County Chief Executive Office (CEO) that impacted our negotiations. Additionally, the recent ratification of the SEIU contract has prompted additional questions and inquiries from Members. Please know that your Executive Board has been working diligently to respond appropriately and effectively to the rapidly changing negotiating landscape.

Since August 20, your bargaining team has submitted multiple proposals to the County’s Chief Executive Office (CEO), including those related to clinical supervision and licensure, mandatory continuing education, personnel files, and contracting out. We have been meeting and negotiating weekly directly with the CEO, alongside representatives from DMH, DHS, and Public Health management. Negotiations remain ongoing and continue each week. In addition, your union leadership continues to collaborate closely with AFSCME District Council 36, other County unions, legal counsel, and subject-matter experts to ensure we respond strategically and effectively to the County’s proposals. In the coming weeks, we will turn our focus to proposals addressing wages and special pay practices (bonuses) and will continue to challenge the County’s current refusal to provide our members with meaningful, much deserved, and livable wage increases.

As a reminder, while the process began later than expected due to scheduling issues with the CEO and management, this delay also extends our bargaining timeline. This allows us to continue negotiating beyond the original September 30, 2025, deadline without penalty.

We will continue to provide regular updates to the full membership as negotiations progress. We also encourage everyone to attend our monthly membership meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:30–8:00 PM via Zoom. The next meeting will be on November 19th, 2025.  Although we are unable to respond to individual emails requesting updates, please know that we are fully committed to keeping all members informed and engaged throughout this process.

Together, we will continue to fight for the fair and just contract you deserve.

In solidarity,

Beni Hernandez

President, AFSCME Local 2712
